VOLUME I—Metaphysics and the Existence of God, first published in 1960, remains a classic text in modern Thomistic philosophy. Thomas C. O’Brien, O.P., provides an incisive analysis of the relationship between the existence of God and the science of metaphysics according to the sapiential teaching of St. Thomas Aquinas, offering critical engagement with the thought of significant figures associated with the Thomist tradition.

VOLUME II—What Is Sacred Theology? (originally published in 1941 as The Concept of Sacred Theology), is renowned theologian Joseph Clifford Fenton’s doctoral dissertation, written under the direction of his mentor Reginald Garrigou-Lagrange, O.P. Monsignor Fenton explains how the intellectual work of the theologian always proceeds from God’s revealed truth. Because God himself is holy, his teaching is holy. And because his teaching is holy, authentic theology is always sacred. 

VOLUME III—The Natural Law According to Aquinas and Suárez (originally published in 1930 as The Natural Moral Law According to St. Thomas and Suárez) outlines the profound teaching of St. Thomas Aquinas on the natural law. The book also considers the writings of Francisco Suárez, engaging the Suarezian understanding of the natural law in the light of Thomas and the later Thomists. 

VOLUME IV—Mary, Full of Grace is a summary Mariology—a comprehensive study of the Blessed Virgin Mary as the one full to overflowing with the life of God. Our Lady is “full of grace,” writes Édouard Hugon, O.P., “because she has received the plenitude of graces for herself and because she is the dispensatrix of graces for all the saints.” Masterfully translating Hugon’s brief but deeply insightful contribution to Mariology, John G. Brungardt supplements the volume with an original introduction and copious editorial notes, as well as an appendix of essays by himself, Hugon, and Reginald Garrigou-Lagrange, O.P. 

VOLUME V—Philosophizing in Faith is an expansive collection of essays by Reginald Garrigou-Lagrange on epistemology, logic, and moral and political philosophy, as well as critiques of modernism and presentations of the relationship between philosophy and theology. Translating twenty of the twenty-one essays into English for the first time and meticulously editing and annotating the texts, Matthew K. Minerd makes abundantly clear the universal value of Garrigou-Lagrange’s thought and invites scholars and students alike to consider its character and claims in their own right and on their own terms.

VOLUME VI—Grace and Freedom According to Suarez: A Thomistic Analysis considers one of the most controversial topics in the history of Christian theology. Thomas Urban Mullaney, O.P., examines the philosophical and theological writings of the Jesuit Francisco Suárez (1548–1617). With analytical clarity and rhetorical charity, Mullaney provides a profound analysis of key issues in a debate that remains unresolved in Catholic theology.

VOLUME VII—Conscience: Four Thomistic Treatments presents a series of distinct essays by the Thomistic scholars Benoît-Henri Merkelbach, Reginald Beaudouin, and Michel Labourdette. Expertly compiled, translated, and introduced by Matthew K. Minerd, these essays confront the difficulty of assessing the proper locus of conscience in moral theo­logy—a difficulty as palpable today as when debates over casuistry and probabilism raged.
