By Martin Cyril D'Arcy, S.J.

The Mind and Heart of Love, first published in 1945 by T. S. Eliot, carefully examines the question of love, both human and divine, comparing and contrasting them with the philosophical, poetic, psychological, and theological bounty of the Christian tradition, to develop a rich theory of love as a harmony of giving and receiving. The Mind and Heart of Love is an eloquent treatise on the central mystery of life, notable, in the words of one contemporary reviewer, for its power in “conditioning the minds of unbelievers for the reception of divine grace.”

We are…courtiers of the Absolute; we can be unmade as quickly as we are made, and in that dependence is felt dimly the ultimate love of the rivulet for its source.Martin Cyril D’Arcy
